What I did before attending the Institute

Before joining the Middlebury Institute, I studied trilingual translation (Chinese–English–French) at Beijing Language and Culture University. What started as a fascination with languages gradually evolved into a deeper curiosity about technology and how it can enhance communication.

That curiosity led me to switch my major to localization, a field that perfectly blends my love for language, logic, and problem-solving. From that point on, I poured my energy into mastering both the linguistic and technical sides of localization and eventually graduated top of my class.

During my undergraduate years, I took every opportunity to apply what I learned. I helped design and typeset the college magazine using InDesign, collaborated on small localization and translation projects, and volunteered at various language and cultural events. These experiences taught me not only the craft of localization, but also teamwork, attention to detail, and creativity under pressure.

Outside of class, I found balance through hiking and mixology. one connects me with nature, and the other with people. Both remind me that meaningful communication often happens beyond words.

After graduation, I had a six-month gap before starting my graduate studies as an accelerated entry student, which gave me 6 months gap. I used that time to join TikTok as a Localization Project Manager intern, where I managed multi-language content workflows, built automation tools, and earned recognition from my mentors for improving efficiency and cross-team collaboration. That experience confirmed my passion for the intersection of language, technology, and global impact, which prepared me for the journey ahead at MIIS.
